The service organization will present the Brownells with its 51st Meritorious Service Award on Tuesday, June 5, at Villa Borghese. The public is encouraged to attend.
“Our Club’s annual Meritorious Service Award recognizes lifetime and/or exemplary service to others in southern Dutchess County,” said Club President Norey Reilly. “The Brownells embody that – and their dedication to improve our community deserves to be celebrated. All are welcome to join us in honoring this outstanding couple.”
Reilly said the recognition is especially significant since Rick Brownell’s father, Maynard Brownell, was a charter member of the Exchange Club when it was formed in 1966 and received the Meritorious Award in 1982; his brother Bill Brownell received the award in 1998.
They are the only two-generation family to receive this long-standing recognition of community involvement in the 51 years that it has been presented.
Individual tickets to the event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., cost $50.
Sponsorship packages and reserved table purchases are available. Please email event chair Denise Doring VanBuren at dvanburen@cenhud.com for more details. The public is invited to attend, but paid reservations are required.
Nancy Brownell is vice president in Putnam for the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley. She previously served eight years as a member of the Foundations’ Board of Trustees, which she also chaired. In addition to assisting many other organizations, she serves on the Foundation for Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Hudson Valley Hospice and the Garden Club of Orange and Dutchess.
Rick Brownell is the co-owner and president of Freedom Ford in Beacon. He is president of the Beacon Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Beacon Elks Club, Beacon Sloop Club and the New Hamburg Yacht Club. He previously served as a Little League coach for Fishkill Baseball, a member of the Fishkill Rotary and as a basketball coach for St. Mary’s Fishkill CYO.
The Exchange Club of Southern Dutchess was founded in 1966 to promote programs in Americanism, Community Service, Youth Activities and the national project of the Prevention of Child Abuse.
